Mixed-age classrooms are a core part of the Montessori approach and offer many benefits for children’s learning and development.

Younger children learn naturally by observing older peers, gaining inspiration, language, and confidence as they watch more advanced skills in action. Older children deepen their own understanding by mentoring younger classmates, developing leadership, empathy, and responsibility.

Children remain in the same classroom for multiple years, allowing them to form secure relationships with teachers and peers, build confidence over time, and experience continuity in their learning.

Mixed-age classrooms reflect real-life social settings and help children develop respect for others at different stages of development.

Our teachers are qualified early childhood educators, holding recognised Early Childhood Education (ECE) qualifications. Many of our teachers also hold specialised Montessori training, ensuring they are knowledgeable in both the Montessori philosophy and best practice in early childhood education.

Our team is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly undertakes further training to stay aligned with current research, Te Whāriki, and regulatory requirements. This ensures we provide a high-quality, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for every child.

We ask that parents provide packed lunches for the children. Snack is provided at school, and we are careful to take into consideration your child’s allergies. Snacks are usually healthy foods such as fruits, crackers, cheese, and granola.

We ask that each child brings:

• A packed lunch

• A clean change of clothes, including socks

• Nappies and wipes, if your child is not yet toilet trained

Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This helps us support your child’s independence and ensures belongings are returned home easily.

Outdoor play takes place in our safe, private outdoor areas, including a sandpit and a covered outdoor space for activities, allowing children to explore and play in all weather conditions.

We also regularly take children on supervised excursions to Marlborough Park for additional outdoor experiences.

In addition, we offer optional Physical Education (P.E.) programmes, such as Playball, which families can choose to enrol in. These programmes help develop children’s coordination, confidence, and physical skills through structured, age-appropriate activities.
